Gone fishing.

Easter Sunday
Good Cod almighty.

It had been some time since we had been out fishing, waiting for favourable conditions
was frustrating to say the least.
But Sunday promised fine weather and we were not disappointed when it dawned,
sunny mild and windless. Perfect conditions for a spot of fishing.

Slipping out of Paddys hole into the River Tees,
we were dwarfed by a tanker fully three times the length of a football pitch.
Although I love the sea, I have never felt the inclination to take to her on one of these floating worlds.
It is just not the same as sitting with your hand in the water, as you glide across the mirror like surface.
Making little ripples with your fingertips.

Soon we reached the fishing grounds, with hardly a breath of wind and as silent as the grave.
We dropped our lines and settled down to some hopefully successful fishing.
We were not disappointed, when after only a  short time my finger detected a
slight tremble on the line. Just enough to tell me that something some 200ft below on the sea bed
was interested in the bait.
A moment later whatever it was, took the bait. Suddenly the slight tremor that ran through the line,
now became a violent shudder. Telling me instantly that he was hooked.
It evokes such a carnivorous emotion, when the energy of the fish travels up the line from the depths,
into the rod  so into myself.

As I reeled him up, his thrashing and tugging became less violent .
Some 20ft below the surface, a flash of silvery white,
told me this night I would be eating freshly caught Cod for my supper.

I was not wrong as by the end of the day we had landed 8 fine specimens of North sea Cod.
All in all a fine days fishing and I can’t wait to get out there again.

Indeed there is something very special about the motion of the ocean.
It makes some people sick. But, to me it sings, it dances and sways to the rhythm of Nature.
But as with all women she has her moods and must be respected,
we ignore  gathering storm clouds, at our peril !

The people I admire most are those whose beauty shines through from within.I am happy to report I am finished all of my course work and will be graduating on May 16. I’m doing my happy dance today!Peace

  7. Hello dear Kenny. How is that case of lazyitis coming – any improvement? Me, I’ve got a good case of procrastinationitis – I have my last open book test to do and I can’t seem to get motivated. 11. Aye aye Cap’n!Nice catch.. but isn’t there some quota law on cod these days?I wouldn’t even know where to start to get them off the hook, let alone gut them and all that stuff! Those tanker things are unbelievable just how big they really are… it’s no wonder it takes them 3 miles to stop… blimey! The glorious claret & blue glory boys are comimg up to Middlesborough in May…. and so is the Villa.. yes that’s right me and the old growler are coming up to the Riverside for a jolly good look around…. at the Riverside… now that your pub has burnt down, is there anywhere close for a thisty footy fan to get a pint of the north easts’ finest euro pop? ;o)However, we are coming on the official coaches, which means leaving at 8.30AM on the Saturday…. crikes!!!That’s usually my sleep in day.. never mind , better get some shut eye on the coach!Hope you had a good easter Kenny, from the looks of your haul, it certainly was good cod almighty!:-) lol)Take care my sea faring amigo, good to see you again, and sorry for leaving it so long…. promise to do better next time…. Sah!All the best dude, woof woof !!!ps. I think things are looking very bad for the north east..Gareth saying you must beat newcastle is right but one win aint gonna do it… sadly ( and I hope I’m wrong ) I think its the Championship beckoning.Good luck matey.

  13. We go salmon fishing out of Westport on the ocean here in the Nor’west, and don’t get me wrong, I love it. But when the boat sails over the bar to get to open sea I nearly always regret the pancakes, bacon and eggs for breakfast. Also its regrettable we couldn’t exchange a few fish. I love salmon, but for fish and chips it just has to be cod.BTW, in my current blog there is a link to the space of a woman on the other side of the U.S. who has wonderful photos of wolves that might interest you.Blessed be
