The Waltz.

 “I SHALL WALTZ”

I am no great dancer, but for some years now, I have been toying with the idea of learning to dance the Waltz. To glide, whirl and spin around the dance floor as if on ice. No jerking movements, or head banging, just  flowing dreamlike. With the Lady I love held close to my body.

Well it is an idea for the future when I am fit enough.

***********************************************************

In 1919, H.L.Menken wrote
 “The waltz never quite goes out of fashion;

it is always just around the corner; every now and then it returns with a bang . . .************************************************

It is sneaking, insidious, disarming, lovely. . . .

The waltz, in fact, is magnificently improper..

the art of tone turned lubricious. . .

Austrian music scholar, Max Graf, wrote,

“If there exists a form of music

that is a direct expression of sensuality,

it is the Viennese Waltz….”

The WALTZ was a smash hit from the very start, mesmerizing its listeners into non-stop revelry. The waltz swept out of Germany in the middle of the eighteenth century to conquer all of Europe, inspiring an old German verse: “Whosoever the dance did discover/Had in mind each maid and lover/With all their burning ardor.”

The name of the waltz is taken from the Italian ‘volver’ – to turn, or revolve. It was an outgrowth of the ländler, a country dance in three-quarter time, and replaced the heavy hopping and jumping movements with more polished and graceful gliding.

It was, indeed, rural lads and lasses who first found these whirling steps so appealing. And so, the waltz originally was decidedly low-brow and provincial. In those days, there was something unsavory about a woman being gripped in a man’s embrace while whirling in a frenzy around the dance floor.

The close contact with one’s partners body contrasted sharply with the stately dances of the aristocracy – the minuets, polonaises, and quadrilles – in which one kept one’s distance. A first-hand account of a village dance in the latter part of the eighteenth century read “The men dancers held up the dresses of their partners very high so that they should not trail and be stepped on, wrapped themselves both tightly in the covering, bringing their bodies as closely together as possible, and thus whirling about went on in the most indecent positions….

  1. The waltz is my favorite dance. Isn’t it romantic?

My husband and I have been doing ballroom dance for many, many years. He, too has cancer. In his case, metastatic lung cancer, and he never smoked!

More slowly now, but we are still dancing! We understand the struggle with cancer since we are going through it, too.

God bless you and may your determination to live, along with God’s/the Universe’s blessings, bring you to increasingly improving health.

  3. So, have you started the Waltzing lessons yet or is it far too cold for a quick one? NO… A dance round I meant… lol

Actually I can see how this dancing lark could catch on, I mean you’ve already got such a wicked following and you’re still only in the learning phase, just think about all the action you are going to get once you have perfected all of those vibratory moves… lol

Anyway keep us all posted on your Waltzing action, I mean progress as it all sounds rather interesting, well perhaps a little tame unless you have some of that Animal desire in the mix, or is that after the Waltz?

Have fun now Sir Kenny2dogs Hutch…

yes dogs can develop some strange habits later in life. so do humans 🙂 Cherno is just fine. he sends a big furry hug to you. It would be a sad thing if i had no sense of humour. where would we be without one. no use being down and miserable, one must just get on with life. dancing and laughing to our graves.

  15. November and Tis the time to prepare for the school christmas dance! At my mixed school we were frog marched into the hall to learn how to waltz, and dare I say it, ‘do’ the gay gordons. The alternative was a double lesson of algebra ! Having your favourite girl in ones grasp made me more than appreciate Eddie Cochrans song ‘Three Steps To Heaven’
Happy your wellness improves and wish you well in your new projects… 😉

I am sure you have fully recovered, and look forward to waltzing.

Waltzing must be good for body and mind. I enjoy listening to the Vienna Waltzes, heavenly as if those Waltzes are from the Angels.

    Cheers, Kenny !

  24. Mmmm, I loved this, Kenny. Anyone reading this can picture it so, so clearly — all the way from the foot stomping to the dresses lifted high and close. The gliding instead of jerky motions, almost like a passioned breeze; you can see it and feel it reading this post. I’ve always thought the waltz was very beautiful but this was the first time I had an inkling that it was also sexy 😉
You are a surprised a minute, my friend. I love coming over here and wish you posted every single day. Doesn’t stop me from the random visit, though 🙂

    • Hello Jenny.
Yes … many people see only the dance, the movement and the beauty. They fail to appreciate the stimulating effects it arouses within the dancers. The closeness, the headiness of it all. The twirling and swirling, both dancers can become locked within a rapturous grip, of magical music and animal desire !!!
Take care you lovely person you. xx
