Poor Cherno.

Cherno has always been a good eater. So it was a surprise to me , when he turned his nose up at his breakfast. ( I feed him on the morning and allow him to sleep all he wants through the day. This ensures he is alert and hungry throughout the night, )
This was Saturday morning, Sunday he became lethargic and struggled to rise from a prone position. Bank holiday Monday he was just the same. He had a slight temperature and was drinking profusely. I began to suspect an infection. Tuesday morning, I checked what he had passed during the night. His motion was ” Black “.

I called the Vet immediately and made an appointment for 12-o-clock ! Cherno was weighed and found to be 60 kilo’s. Far too heavy. The Vet suggested that I reduce his food intake by half and bring his weight down by 15k. The Vet then told me he thought an infection had caused the black stool.A couple of injections and a coarse of antibiotics and he should be ok, he said. A repeat appointment was made for 10 days time. About half an hour after arriving home, Cherno spontaneously spilled the contents of his stomach over the carpet, twice !!! Poor fellow just could not help it. Not a nice sight nor pleasant to clean up. “DOGS ” NOTHING BUT TROUBLE, BUT DO I LOVE THEM… YOU CAN BET YOUR BUTT I DO.
So here I sit watching Cherno’s every move with everything crossed, hoping he makes some sign of recovery soon.

  2. Thank you for adding the updates on Cherno it is looking a lot brighter now don’t you think? Of course as soon as he is producing normal you know whats then we can all relax… As your great friend Laird has mentioned, do keep your own strength levels up as you don’t want to be getting poorly on top of worrying for Cherno’s good health to return…

    • Thank you Laird for your concern, he is not doing so bad at mo. He is off to the vet again tomorrow, it will be interesting to hear what he thinks. I myself am ok I guess but could have done without Cherno falling ill. It stopped me in my tracks.

    • Hi Sue, Cherno has eaten 4 meals so far and has not lost them. But as yet he has not passed any motions, this is what I am waiting for now.
I hope he passes something before his next appointment on Thursday. If not, then I will be suspecting a blockage of some description.
I myself, am worried, and somewhat tired of thinking about it all. I have nursed sick dogs before, but this is the first time Cherno has been sick in his life. It is as if my life has been put on hold, all my energy, time and thoughts are reserved for Cherno.
Thank you for your concern Sue,
      Kenny.

      • I hope that Cherno is well again soon Kenny I know exactly what you are feeling as I have also nursed my best friends, it is so sickening to see them lose their strength and as we tend to their needs, all that we can do is hope that they are going to be okay…

Do let us know what happens on your next visit to the vets… We are all hoping for the same thing here Sir Kenny2dogs Hutch so draw some energy from all of our positive thoughts our great friend…

  5. Oh poor furry friend Cherno….he does sound in a bad way. Hopefully you will start to see the effects of the antibiotics in the next day or so, and he will be on the road ot recovery and a return to his usual impressive self. Such a worrying time and not being certain of what the problem is doesn’t help to allay the anxieties either…but I am sure you have a very good vet for Cherno who if needs be will get swiftly to the bottom of his ailments and ensure his speedy and complete recovery. But paws crossed the antibiotics will do their stuff and he will soon be fit enough to come and see Timid one behind the Old Oak Tree 🙂 Thinking of you and Cherno and sending a delicate and gentle Wolfie hug to Cherno….Timid one

    • Cherno is up for a little horse play and is quite active. But once again parted company with the contents of his stomach over the carpet again last night. If the vomiting would stop he would be ok, and me !!!

    • It is not Parvo Jen. I have seen a dog of mine die from it, not a pretty site at all. Cherno’s symptoms are not that of Parvo. As far as I am aware he does not eat his motions. never seen him do that in 7 years. If I remember correctly when a dog eats it’s motions, it is lacking vitamin B. I feed Cherno a balanced diet, so he is lacking in nothing regarding his food intake.
At present he is not getting any worse, however, niether is he getting any better.

  9. Your dog Cherno is a magnificent looking dog, and as you know we love German Shepherds, I never like to see a pet that is poorly but they do spring back into life don’t they our great friend, one minute they look rather down and so completely out of character and the next they are up and running around like a pup again… Let us hope that Cherno is up and running around again as usual very soon, like Jen says if he is anything like yourself he will be fine… Try not to worry, though this is much easier said than done

    Have a much better

    • I hope Heidi is pain free, but as you know she will have to leave you sooner or later. Not a nice thing to contemplate but one must be realistic about this kind of thing. Your friends will support you when this happens.
      be well Jen.

  11. Hi Kenny, Im sending some Healing energy over the airwaves. for Cherno Kenny I hope he soon gets to feeling brighter and better very soon.. I just so dislike seeing animals ill, for they cannot tell us what is wrong.. I have as you know kept Cats. and have nursed a few of them in my time.. and the Antibiotics can work wonders and soon get them back on their feet in no time..
Thinking of you and sending you more than a thought or two.. Love from Sue.

    • Hi Sue, Thank you for your kind thoughts for Cherno, If he could talk I am sure he would thank you himself. That is the problem a sick animal can’t tell us what is wrong. We must recognise the signs that all is not well, and then seek help. It is criminal when someone refuses to get help for their pet, hoping the problem will just go away.
      Be well ~Dreamwalker~

      • Yes it is criminal Kenny when they leave animals to suffer or ill treat them.. I hope you dont think me foolish.. But you know I believe in the Higher Power of Creative forces at work Kenny.. so I have done a little ceremony and said a little prayer over a Cherno.. and you my friend..
Keeping vigil over your faithful friend.. Love and healing go together hand in hand.. and hes in the very best of hands.
        love to you both Sue

        • Yes Sue I know very well your spiritual beliefs and I respect them. I feel honored that you should call upon your spirits to aid in Cherno’s recovery.
I wonder if Cherno can sense that a higher power is watching over him.
Love and best wishes to you also ~Dreamwalker~

    • Hi Eddie.
Caring for our pets is a duty, a duty I am emotionally committed to honor. How people neglect their helpless pets is beyond me.
Starved of love and attention any animal shall suffer a miserable existence.
      Peace to you Eddietwohawks.
