Left or right ?

ALONE, LOST BUT NEVER WITHOUT HOPE, I HAVE  STUMBLED THROUGH THE DARK STEAMING JUNGLES OF LIFE’S JOURNEY. I HAVE MACHETEIED MY WAY ALONG MILE AFTER PAINSTAKING MILE OF STINKING SWAMP AFTER SWAMP. ALIVE WITH BLOOD-SUCKING LEACHES. FINALLY COMING TO A PATHWAY, I KNEW NOT WHICH WAY TO GO. DECISION MADE, I  WALKED TO MY RIGHT WITH RENEWED HOPE IN MY HEART. AFTER WALKING FOR AN HOUR OR SO, I SENCED THAT I WAS NOT ALONE. NERVOUSLY I LOOKED AROUND AND TO MY HORROR, THERE BEHIND ME CROUCHED A MANED LION. INSTINCTIVELY I BEGAN TO RUN, SO TOO THE LION BEGAN TO RUN. PANIC STRICKEN WITH FEAR AND SHOCK, I RAN UNTIL I WAS CONFRONTED BY A CLIFF EDGE. AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CLIFF WAS A LAKE, THE WATER SEETHING WITH CROCODILES, ALL LOOKING IN MY DIRECTION. THEIR JAWS AGAPE IN ANTICIPATION OF A JUICY MEAL. BEHIND NOW, THE LION WAS ALMOST UPON ME. IT WAS THEN I NOTICED A SLENDER BRANCH GROWING OUT OF FROM THE CLIFF FACE, SO TURNING ON TO MY STOMACH I SLIPPED OVER THE EDGE AND GRASPED THE SLENDER BRANCH WITH BOTH HANDS. ABOVE ME THE LION HAD SKIDDED TO A HALT AND THROUGH THE CLOUD OF DUST, TWO LARGE GREEN EYE’S APPEARED.

THINKING THINGS COULD NOT BECOME ANY WORSE. FROM THE CORNER OF MY EYE, I SAW A MOUSE CHEWING INTO THE SLENDER BRANCH. THE BRANCH BECOMING WEAKER AND WEAKER. I GAZED IN DISBELIEF, AS MY LIFE SUPPORT SYSTEM WAS BEING CHEWED AWAY. “”OH DEAR ME””…I NOTICED THEN AT THE VERY END OF THE BRANCH, HUNG A BEAUTIFUL RED BERRY. SO REACHING OUT WITH ONE HAND, I PICKED THE BERRY AND PLACED IT IN MY MOUTH. HOW SWEET IT TASTED I THOUGHT, AND THE BRANCH SNAPPED !!!

I think the moral of this little story is, no matter what life places in our path, no matter how critical the situation. There is always something sweet somewhere to be found. If we only “reach out” for it.

Mmmmm…I wonder what would have happened if I had turned to my left ?

  2. Well I would be absolutely intrigued to know what would have happened if you’d turned left! Turning right was hairy enough! But…hey Kenny…*whisper, whisper…left nudges…nudge, nudge ;)* any chance you could try turning left??!! Just for Timid one? lol I am after all a very curious icewolf! Unique and intriguing piece of writing…”your darkest fears and your greatest desires”…maybe…in a manner of speaking. I like the way you wove the moral in, it’s that positive spirit that is entwined in it that has kept you safe so far and will continue to do so…remember: “The moment you cease to fear the fire, that moment it ceases to harm you!”

    Timid one 🙂

  3. Reading this Kenny I felt totally stressed out! Maybe you fell onto a ledge leading to a cave and a path back to the land of the living again.

    I am sure you will!
