Happy Mediums.

Mediums living it large on the proceeds they con from the naive and gullible.

They who live by the crystal ball

shall eat shattered glass.

At an early age I was in a relationship with a pretty young girl and I liked her very much. But that meant nothing to her Mother and her older Brother. Together they made me feel inferior and both conspired to destroy the relationship I had with her Daughter and his younger Sister.

The reason behind their dislike of me was plain as the nose on your face, I was working class  and my pretty young friend, was not. Her parents were well to do and had great expectations for their young beautiful Daughter.

Being a spiritual family they arranged for my friend to visit a medium. I discovered later just what the medium had told my friend. She had told her that the boy she was seeing (me) was not good enough for her and would only make her unhappy and it would be best if she brought an end to the relationship. Those word’s sounded like they had come direct from her Mothers mouth.

That is the trick , it is called “Hot Reading” where the medium is given personal information  about the person they are about to fool. This was her Mothers way of trying to convince her Daughter that I was not MR. right. The sad thing is, it worked.

So thank’s to a bloody medium, my first adventure into the inferno that is Love, was dowsed and destroyed by a great big con  !!!   Beware those that speak with fork tongues.

This is my first ever post, 11 years ago on Windows Live Spaces.

High force is reputed to be the highest unbroken fall of water in England. It suddenly and spectacularly drops 70 feet. As you begin the slow descent along the gently sloping, well maintained path, you become aware of a distant muffled rumble. The pretty woodland walk twists and turns with a different view every few yards. You peer through the trees and there it is. The sight of it is astounding. Postcards and photographs cannot portray the sheer size of this vertical wall of water, the ceaseless roaring sound and the almost tangible atmosphere of the place. I must say it is well worth seeing.

A little window into my visit to Sweden.

 photo DIVIDERPURPLEPEARL.gif

To begin with, I would suggest to anyone thinking of visiting Sweden. That they should take with them a case full of money. Below you see a bill for 2 cup’s of Earl Grey and 2 fingers of my Daughter’s favourite wine.

170 Swedish crowns which equals  £15.31

It is a good thing that I am a none drinker.

Another thing to beware of are the Taxi drivers. Soon as they know you are are not Swedish, the price seems to double.

Greta Garbo’s Torg.

 photo DIVIDERPURPLEPEARL.gif

Just opposite the entrance to my Daughters apartment, is Greta Garbo’s Torg. I would sit there for a while to smoke. Lisa would not allow me to smoke indoors.  Which is fare enough with me.

“Torg” in Swedish means “square” However it is in fact a circular piece of ground that is a Mecca for Garbo fans.  A quiet place where one can sit on one of 12 benches and reflect. In the very center there is a large Star surrounded by flowers.

Many people pilgrimage to Greta Garbo’s Torg

20160911_134219

Greta Garbo

I realised that it was indeed her Birthday on the 18th of Sept , While I was visiting My Daughter.  So taking the opportunity as a kind of memory to her name, I sprinkled Gold glitter over the Star.  It did not show much in the daylight. But come the night with a light shining on it, the Gold sparkled and glistened.

An elderly Lady was picking seed pods from the flowers surrounding the Star as her husband looked on impatiently.  I asked the Lady if she knew that it was in fact Greta Garbo’s Birthday today, The Lady did not know and was very pleased to learn it. She thanked me for telling her and walked away, I heard her telling her husband what i had told her, they then both looked back at me smiled and gave a shyish kind of wave,

Two good things happened during  this fortunate happenstance.  The Lady that picked the seed pods, learned she had unknowingly picked them on Greta Garbo’s Birthday. This fact alone made the seeds a great deal more important to her and she was happy. I am happy because unknowingly to the Lady, she had given me the idea to pick some seed pods. They are in the fridge waiting for Spring.  So am I  🙂

A short time later I spotted these 3 characters who were punk rockers. Although the one in the middle looked far from being a punk rocker.  They spoke excellent English and relished the opportunity to prove it to me. They offered me a can of lager that I had to decline , which they thought was strange.  However after explaining about my transplant and showing them my scar , they understood and recognised the scar as a kind of alcoholics trophy . lol.  ” take note” ….Not that I have ever been a alcoholic.

The Katarina Elevator or Katarina Lift (Swedish: Katarinahissen) is a passenger elevator in Stockholm that connects Slussen(the lock area) to the heights of Södermalm. The lift was a shortcut between Katarinavägen, Slussen and Mosebacke torg. The original lift was constructed in 1881, but the current structure dates from the rebuilding of the Slussen transport interchange in 1936. The lift has been closed since 2010 due to lack of security in the construction. There are plans to renovate the elevator’s structure so that it can resume operation in 2019.

I visited the Old Town in Stockholm for one reason and one reason only. That was to drink coffee from the very same coffee pot, that I had drank from many times in the past. I recall old men who would place a cube of sugar in their mouth, pour their coffee into their saucer and slurp it through the sugar  At the time this was not considered bad table manners. Don’t know about these days though.

This coffee pot must be hundreds of years old and must have poured an Ocean of coffee into millions of charming little china cups.

Stockholm is surrounded by water.

dsc_09701

Stockholm is world famous for being stunningly beautiful. The city sits on 14 islands, is surrounded by water and is pickled with parkland, forest and lakeshore beaches.

All in all, my visit to Stockholm turned out to be a most interesting experience.  My Daughter looked well and so too Adama. Wish Aliue my G/son had been there  😦

Over the past 5 times I have visited my Daughter, like a Nomad Lisa has been living in 5 different places.I wonder where she shall be living on my next visit.

Anyway I trust you enjoyed your little visit to Stockholm from my point of view.

It really is a beautiful City.

Old Lady . Mormo maura…

I had spent hours trying name the Moth in my last post. Finally I thought may be there is a group dealing with Moths on Face Book.  I joined a group called ‘Butterflies and Moths of Great Britain & Ireland . I was given the name of this beast very quickly by a very knowledgeable lady. I was most impressed. So if anyone should need information on the subject, then I highly recommend this group.

I can now spend the rest of my day doing nothing, with a smile on my face 🙂

What is it ?

Whilst sitting in my garden this morning, I moved an old pot that had been standing there for too long doing nothing. There was a piece of old cloth at the bottom of it. When I lifted the cloth, I was surprised to see this big dark coloured Moth.  YIKES…I had never seen anything like it before.

DSC_0653

DSC_0652

I did think at first of the Peppered Moth This is the Moth that Evolution, because of pollution, had turned from white to black . Middlesbrough being an industrial town during earlier days, I thought seemed plausible. But then i noticed the red markings on the back of the Moth. So checking on the internet, I was disappointed and surprised not to find anything that fitted the description of the Moth I had discovered.

If anyone out there can throw any light on this, I would be very greatful.

I HAVE NEVER BEEN THAT DEPRESSED, BESIDES I LOVE LIFE

AND I AM TOO MUCH OF A COWARD ANYWAY  🙂

BUT I HAVE WONDERED SOMETIMES IF ANIMALS IN ZOO’S

SO MY LOGIC TELLS ME THAT IT MUST BE POSSIBLE,

THAT ANIMALS THAT BECOME SERIOUSLY DEPRESSED

MAY COMMIT SELF MURDER.

SECOND LARGEST DIAMOND ON EARTH FOR SALE

£70 MILION.

AND TO THINK THAT A LITTLE BLACK MAN IN SOUTH AFRICA, WAS THE FIRST PERSON TO TOUCH AND SEE IT “EVER”.

90071_448740

WHAT PASSED THROUGH HIS MIND THE MOMENT HE GLIMPSED

IT’S BEAUTY, AFTER SPITTING ON IT AND RUBBING AWAY THE MUD AND GRIT, THAT

HAD  HELD IT PRISONER AND HIDDEN IT’S BEAUTY FOR COUNTLESS MILLIONS OF YEARS.

IN HIS HEART OF HEARTS HE MUST HAVE KNOWN THAT IT WAS NOT HIS PROPERTY

AND THAT HE “MUST” RELUCTANTLY PLACE THIS BEAUTIFUL MONSTER INTO THE

HAND’S OF HIS SUPERIOR

SUDDENLY HIS ELATION EVAPORATES AND IS REPLACED BY THE THOUGHT

OF SMUGGLING IT OUT OF THE MINE. BUT NO CHANCE OF THAT HE THINKS.

SO, RESIGNED TO THE FACT THAT HE MUST RELINQUISH THE PRECIOUS STONE,

HE CONTINUES SWEATING AND DIGGING.

I DON’T KNOW IF THIS POOR MAN RECEIVED A REWARD, BUT IF HE DID, THEN IT WOULD

PROBABLY BE SOMETHING TO THE VALUE OF A WEEKS WAGES, ABOUT £5

AND FOR THAT, HE WOULD BE EXPECTED TO BE GRATEFUL.

NOW THINK FOR A WHILE OF THE PERSON WHO DOES EVENTUALLY BUY THIS OH SO BEWITCHING CRAZY DIAMOND.

THINK OF THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HIM AND THE MAN WHO DISCOVERED THE STONE

AND YOU WILL SEE ONE OF THE GREATEST  INJUSTICES OF LIFE.

IT IS STORIES LIKE THIS THAT MAKE ME FEEL SO LUCKY TO BE BORN INTO  THE FREE WORLD.

IF IT HAD BEEN MYSELF WHO DISCOVERED THIS MAGICAL STONE,

I THINK I WOULD HAVE BURIED IT IN THE FLOOR SOMEWHERE, THEN

AT THE START OF EVERY SHIFT I WOULD STAND ON IT AND SMILE

TO MYSELF, KNOWING ,THAT AT THAT VERY MOMENT I WAS SUPER RICH.

BUT I ALSO THINK THAT THE FRUSTRATION AND STRESS I WOULD EXPERIENCE,

COULD  KILL ME AND PROBABLY WOULD.

THE MOST CRUEL OF DILEMMAS .

A short note on the ethics of liver transplantation

6 years ago I received a successful liver transplant. For that, I shall be eternally grateful to the surgeons, doctors and wonderful nurses.

In the same ward as myself was a 35 years old alcoholic, he had been drinking up to 5 bottles of white lightning (cheap strong cider) per day. A thoroughly uncouth man, who was forever pressing the emergency button to call the nurse. He told me he was considered by the Doctors to be “high risk”, I myself had been classed as” low risk”.
Then he told me he had waited only 3 month on the waiting list. This made me think, as I myself had waited 9 month on the waiting list.

Why so long I wondered considering I was classed as “low risk” Plus this man had brought about his own problem. My problem was not caused by alcohol.
I began to think it was unfair, I felt like the alcoholic had been prioritised and I had, in effect been punished. So I questioned the Transplant coordinator but she could shed no light on my query.

This note discusses the ethics of who does and who doesn’t receive the life saving surgery. “oh” well at least I am alive now and shall be for years to come yet. I learned later the alcoholic died !!!

The Electric Agora

By Daniel Tippens

This is the first of what will be several rounds of dialogue between Dan Kaufman and Dan Tippens on “moralizing medicine.”  As in a real conversation, each entry will consist of relatively short bursts of points and counterpoints that not only will keep the exchange moving, but will leave room for development of the relevant ideas in the comment threads that follow.

I have been concerned about the way in which we moralize medicine, and after several chats about the topic with my dear friend Dan Kaufman, I’ve decided to put down a few brief thoughts. My concern is with our occasional reliance on the concept of punishment in medical practice, and particularly with regard to organ transplantation. In the United States, organ scarcity is a serious problem. An estimated twenty-two people die each day, because we lack a sufficient number of organs to save them. Our…
